You'll have to study the samples more at a later time. There's still the elephant in the room involving IN LIMBO. The anomaly has been acting...weird. Your gut is telling you that the moment you enter that cell, you'll have to make a choice. A choice you're not ready to make right now.
"Lucy?" It couldn't hurt to talk to one of your friends.
"M-mmh?"
"Nothin'. I just feel like talking to you. Anthony, we'll be busy for a bit, okay?"
"Whatever ya say, Vince. Take yer time." Anthony winks (or is it blinking, since he only has one eye?) at you. He wanders around the lab, just to kepe himself busy. Now it's just you and Lucy.
You gesture at Lucy to follow you. She does so, sluggishly trailing behind you as you approach EL FELINO's cage. Her eyes light up with equal parts anxiety and excitement. "O-oh, w-we're letting him out?"
"Why not?" You let your vine open the cage. If there is a god, he'll make sure the cat isn't a prick right now.
EL FELINO slowly drags itself out of its cage. The cat's doing well, you think? The sandwich must've mellowed it out since all it is doing right now is purring.
Lucy reaches her arms out. The cat eagerly jumps into her open arms and almost immediately, it falls back asleep. D'aw. You still don't trust this thing, but it's cute right now, at least.
Lucy gently rocks the cat resting in her arms. She's wearing a goofy, ear-to-ear smile, a smile that's nearly enough to make you smile as well.
"So. What d-did you want to talk about?"
"Ah, nothing much; I wanted to check on you is all." You shrug. "I noticed the sandwich didn't fix...your condition."
"M-mmh. I-I t-think the d-damage is t-too severe for two sandwiches, r-right?" You can't say she's wrong, but there's something she said earlier that caught your attention.
"Fair. I saw you messing with your hand earlier; mind explaining what that was about?"
"O-oh! U-uhm, i-it's a little freaky but..." She raises a hand up while her other arm holds the cat. Her hand's structure begins to shift right in front of you. A sixth finger grows between her index finger and her thumb. It melts away as she shifts her hand's structure again.
Now, she only has three fingers. Then, five fingers, then no fingers. Soon, she morphs her hand into a fleshy spike that has the same half-melted, loose consistency as the rest of her body.
"I...c-can only mess with my hands for now, but I'm...more fluid? T-than u-usual? I don't hate it, actually. I..." Lucy pauses, trying to find the right words to say.
"W-when m-my body starts to l-lose its structure, m-my wish was t-that I could a-at least mess with my b-body's shape if i-it's going to be all...melting, right?" She smirks as she describes her wish. She might be enjoying this a bit more than she's letting on.
You nod along to her question. "So you think the sandwich picked up on that somehow?"
Lucy's hand shifts back into a regular human hand. "T-that's my b-best guess. LOST SINCE 199X was an-another data point."
