The Duke thought to himself silently, long enough that Lucian had noticed the candles which were lit across the room becoming slightly dimmer thanks to long use. He stroke a beard that ran down his chin before waving a hand towards one of the Knights at the side.
There the two had a conversation that Lucian could not hear. To what kind of authority this man had the pitiful Knight Errant sadly did not know. What he did know was that he was at least a Knight of the Realm. The Plume and adornments that covered his body were so immaculate that he must have been a close soul to the Duke.
It could be an advisor or perhaps a Monarchsword who the Duke was very close to. What mattered was that they were discussing the fate of Lucian’s proposal between in a hush tone that the Knight could not hear. Because of this it was obvious he should stay silent until they finished the hidden conversation.
When they were finished the Duke turned towards the Peasant Knight, “I will give you this authority, Lucian, but know that you will answer for any actions that would sully my honor by granting this to you. It also does not give you the right to call upon my Knights, this respect only means that if a Knight does not wish to fall afoul of my Court he shall bend over backwards for all requests you make.”
“I would be most grateful for that, my Lord!” Lucian declared earnestly and with such gusto that he hoped it would reach the Duke.
“As you should be.” The Duke said as he waved his hand, “I should make the matter clear that you should not use this Authority against your foe, Prince Gillot. Word is that he is following the same trail that you are.”
“Words travel fast it seems.” Lucian murmured to himself as he realized his rival would be closing in.
“Go forth and find that blade. When you do take it as far from Bastonne as your steed shall carry you.” Declared the Duke as he gestured towards the doors with a flick of his hand, “If you come across another fool, I ask that you inform me of your dealings before the blade is driven into him.”
With those words Lucian turned from the Duke and made his way out. He caught the meaning of those words, that the Duke was well aware of his deeds that had happened a few days ago. If this was a sign of his condonment, the Knight did not truly know.
