Is this thing on?
*WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
Whoops. Ahem…
We are a straightforward people who say what we mean. And we find it very interesting that your go-to defense is to threaten a representative of a God. We shan’t dance around the phrasing there. Did the stenographer get that? Good. Let the record show that PathWayToEnlightenment is attempting to blackmail the judge.
We shall not delve into detail on the topic of Soulstones. However, those who have survived encounters with the Undead have all reported hearing the tortured souls of the dead ((Turn 9- the hateful, maddening voice of the dead)) around users of this necromancy. We will defer to Your Honor on the matter of whether this violates the sanctity of the soul, and are seeking to present one of these objects for inspection.
The court has stated that the daily affairs of Mortals are not in question here, but we shall defend ourselves of these charges.
Firstly, the issue of the flames. Many years ago, the fire of the Great Hall was indeed started by a portion of our AAA neighbors and allies. However, the culprits have perished in the blaze, and the people who remain are a population who pursue intellectual pursuits, and have grown past the indiscretion of our forefathers. We are proud to call them friends. They are no longer the same group who set fire to the library. Those have been punished for their crimes, and have died an agonizing death in smoke and flames.
Our own role, however, was to safeguard as large a portion of the Great Hall as possible, using the fire-resistant fluids we produce. While the inferno was a threat to mortal lives, our goal was to protect something loftier: The Books. If we had succeeded, this knowledge, written and granted to us by the Immortal Gods, would have been preserved for future generations, whether they be us, the humans, or even the Undead, were they to conquer us. However, the envy of the unliving caused them to spread the blaze to our quarter of the library. This fit of jealousy, no doubt intended to selfishly ensure that we suffered just as much as everyone else, destroyed a final bastion of knowledge, which is now lost forever. We present our findings from before, recorded meticulously in the annals of the silverfish… ((Turn 6)) to refute the claim that they attempted to organize a controlled burn WITHIN our territory, for supposedly benevolent reasons. The actions of the Undead prevented us from protecting these tomes.
As for the charge of slaying The Sumaru, our human allies were merely preserving their own lives. Numerous times, they have been attacked by this being. Numerous times, the mortal races have collectively told them to leave us be. We have never pursued them, yet they return over and over to attack our walls. What else can one do in this case, but defend themselves? Are we to sit down and die because our aggressor demands it? No. It was their insistence on violence that led to their demise.
