>SELECTED: “Very well. But I’ll take a break by the khave house first.” You intend to catch your breath, enjoy some khave and have a bite to eat before a serious fight. A gamble over a cup of khave is still a sin. [Hearty] No Tired DC penalty
>SELECTED: Your opponent is none other than the same Giovanni Giorgio that you recognise from the streets the other day. He is Langland’s Langlishman, a self-made man on the ascent. Cocky, quick-tempered and not a little ruthless. [Giovanni Giorgio]
>SELECTED: First blood. This offers you the advantage of your armour, but even a friendly enough match is not without risk of injury. [First Blood]
You sip on a cup of khave, finding it just as pleasant as the Patrikas’ own brew if not moreso. Clearly the wiry old Cathagi immigrant’s wares have become a fast favourite amongst the established swordsmen of Capara. The taste however, whilst agreeable, is not your primary focus. Your attention is locked on your challenger, this Giovanni character, drifting between the separate social circles of fighters before your match begins.
Given that just yesterday you watched this man cut down another without compunction in the streets before your very eyes, you hold no misgivings in preparing your own mindset for battle accordingly. The man is a killer, and you will not enter a contest of arms with such an opponent whilst hungry or parched where such niggling distractions can be addressed before the combat begins in earnest. The man himself appears to pay little heed to your hawkish gaze, you had been hoping to seem him warm up or demonstrate a move or two whilst you took your rest. All the better to get a read of him.
Alas, all he seems to be doing is drawing in a bigger match before the duel begins. By the time you step into the sand, delayed by the absence of Mikail and the complete hopelessness of Jess in assisting with the straps on your armour, anywhere between a quarter and a third of the plaza are watching with interest.
