“I thought I told you to run.” Her tone was severe, but the smile on Babs’s face, and the tiny relaxed movement on the shoulders said otherwise.
“That thing is fucking huge.” Mel stared, up, and then up some more. Rivers of red water poured off of matted fur, or maybe red moss. It was still standing up, straightening out, massive roots attached to one arm ripping out of the ground. Massive virulent orange outgrowths covered large parts of the spindly (relative to its size) monster, seemingly growing or covering blackened and rotting bark. Did it even realize they were here? Did it care?
“It’s a treant, or it was. An ancient tree given divine power. This one was corrupted, transformed, then locked away here in this lake, covered in healing waters for a thousand years to heal it, or at least keep it dormant. While the waters were stagnant it has grown more corrupt and insane, its existence a painful contradiction. When the healing waters came again it truly awoke, pained by the healing water, thinking of only one thing. Follow it to the source and destroy it.”

Babs shook her head. “Divine vision while I was breaking through last night.” The treant finished straightening out and let out a ground shaking roar. Hunks of red sap dropped off of it, then exploded as smaller monstrosities clawed their way out.
“We should probably do something about that.” Mel shuddered as high up on the treant shapes started to crawl out of cracks and crevices, then took flight.
Babs nodded. “Watch my back, I’m going to try and bring it down to its knees. Oh, and take these, trap plants, use the whole potion in one spot.” Babs pressed three potions into Mel’s hand.
