The start of the fight had Lucian on the backfoot. Against these powerful Dwarfs he needed to not be retreating from them. There was no way past them for while they ran forward in a charge the Dwarfs had kept their formation against him. Their weapons would unmake the armor Lucian wore, he felt that was true.
So the Knight had to fight if he wanted to get to the Necromancer.
Quickly Lucian advanced, the weight of the sword unfamiliar to his grip. It felt like a snake that was within his grip and the handle was only large enough to accommodate one of his hands. A master of two weapons he could call himself, definitely one handed weapons.
A strike had to be made now and Lucian swing the sword forward towards one of the Dwarf Skulls. He watched as the Dwarf took his axe and placed it between them, Lucian’s attack not having the speed or finesse to go past the barrier. A push of the Dwarf’s strength turned a block into a parry leaving him to be attacked by one of the warriors who were not attacked.
The hammer blow went into his hip and caused the armor to rattle. Pain welled up from the injured shoulder and his blood spilled onto the ground underneath them. Quickly Lucian tried to swing around and slice the skull off the undead but he realized just then how little reach his sword had. How it harmlessly glided in front of the dwarf’s face before the hammerer reached for another blow against him.
Lucian rolled back, but found that the Dwarfs had continued their assault. An axe weilder came at him with the weapon trained not on Lucian, but the weapon that he held in an outstretched hand. The sudden pain that shot up through his wrist and into his brain was nearly enough to make him wail, yet his grip was still strong enough to bring the weapon into his grip.
He got away just far enough that a further attack could not be made. To say that his hand felt horrible was an understatement, the pain of nearly being disarmed crepting a mortal horror to him. He wanted to say that the sword was fighting him and keeping him from doing his best. That he was a Knight and all Knights were competent with swords.
Lucian was simply horrible with a sword. An amateur trying to fight against the greatest of the great. He might even have better luck going in with fists. At least he’s had some experience with that and could fully rely upon the armor Adok gave him.
>Keep using the damned sword.
>Go at them with fists
