>>5156104The hallway was less refined than above, simple painted brick and pipes traced the ceiling above you. It smelt damp. Mossy and damp. Dimitri for some reason chose to wear his jacket on his shoulders like a grand coat, sleeves hanging free as he strutted the way forward. He had the junior officer act nailed. Another person appears, a worn looking staff member, your weary thoughts bloomed. Maybe he'd spot you all and give you away. He might raise the alarm and get you all in deep trouble. The hairs stand up on your arms, climbing up your neck until you felt like the hair on your head was standing straight on end. He says nothing as your small group compacts to allow him to pass, he manages a weak nod. Mind clearly elsewhere. Continuing you end up in a corridor with one wall entirely glass. You watch out into the city, like a beast it towered through the long night.
You felt relief well up and flood your body. That hadn't gone bad. Then you rounded a corner and you blood ran cold. Down the stretch of space you could make out a thick and heavy door, a vault door. The entire way was full of meandering guards, some half dressed. Others smoking and talking. Clearly rotating out. Panic sprung up like a weed in your mind. You climbed into you shell, dulling the emotion and focusing on yourself. Playing it cool as the kids say. You all spread out, pace slowing as you wove your way through the crowds. Eyes on you, words made out in the hum of activity. Dimitri was ahead, he had been stopped by two men.
You wanted to curse, Alex was at your side. Elbowing him you start to converge on the delta pilot. "-anks mate. Been dying for a smoke all day, me and the lads gonna grab a drink and see if we can get lucky." The insane pilot was making small talk and bumming a smoke. You were actually impressed by his boldness. Damn youth officers. You made out though the noise as taller people bounced you about. Fighting the tide of off duty security you make it to your friend. The guard produced two bent cigs, handing one to Dimitri and placing the other between his lips. "Lucky little shits." The guard mumbled as he light up and began to light Dimitri's stick. "Jammy bastards. Take a drink for us while you're out there." You and Alex finally make it up beside the other pilot, the two security officers examining you all. Seemingly unaware of who you truly were.
