>Interview K, have her try on the old pendant, also have her make some coffee
You might as well try to get a better understanding of the employee.
"Mmh. Another interview? I'll open the door." S-4M buzzes. C-0RA closes her eyes as well. Huh, guess they're understanding to not do much when you're interviewing.
The airlock opens up. Kate steps into your room without any real fanfare. She cracks her shoulders. "Hello. Interview."
"Yes." You pull off the pendant from your neck and toss it towards her. She catches it. "Put that on, if you don't mind. I have something I want to see.
Kate shrugs and drapes the pendant over her neck. You snap your fingers at S-4M, who gets your cue to get the two of you some coffee. The two cups rise up out of holes in your desk.
"So. Let's get the elephant out of the room. What exactly is your...everything?" You gesture at her. "You're the weirdest employee I've seen. Constantly talking in riddles, that...eugh. Thing we did. Constantly calling people humans like you're not them."
"Why?"
The look she gives you is not that of someone who understands what you're asking them. She's simply going through the motions of what a person would say. There's something fundamentally missing.
She shudders a bit, with the pendant you made her wear glowing. A tiny spark flickers in her eye. "I simply am, sir. I do not belong with these people. I am simply an abstraction of an employee."
You stare at her, absolutely bewildered. "What?"
"The energy doesn't simply come from the anomalies. I do not wish to say much considering..." She stares at a seemingly featureless part of the office's wall. What is she looking for? "Whatever Kate once was, before she joined this facility so many years ago?"
"Hollowed out. Emptied. I am not me. She is not me. There is a great big nothing in me, Administrator." She leans closer to you. Despite everything she is saying, you don't understand a single lick of it.
"...If you're not you, then who are you? What are you?" You're not sure if she's sane or not. Shouldn't the pendant be helping her? Why are her eyes deep, empty abysses?
"I am Employee K. I am the 11th employee. I work on anomalies. I do hobbies, such as reading and eating." She pulls the pendant off and drops it onto your lap. A strange spark flickers in her eye again, as if trying to reach out.
"I simply do my job. And when my death comes, I shall finally lose this corporal body of mine, to be hollow both physically and mentally."
"..." You reel back from all of this absolute nonsense she spewed. You put the pendant around your neck again. She turns around and prepares to leave. You ask her one last question before she does so.
She hasn't even touched the cup of coffee you had made for her.
"Do you ever regret joining this facility? I am bound by my duty to serve this place 'til the bitter end, but what about you?"
"No." She leaves.
That left more questions than answers. You're not sure if this is going anywhere.
