It’s always something. Before heading back to the sound of fighting, you and the ranger take a few minutes to monitor Indian Springs. As if things can’t get worse, the raiders have heard the kerfuffle and are boarding their vehicles. The two of you double-time it back to camp.
In between gulps of air, the ranger speaks up.
“They look like they’re part of the 80’s. Nasty raider gang the rangers have dealt with on and off for decades. No idea where *huff* they get their rides.”
You’ve heard about them, but are surprised they’re this far south. A raider migration is another problem you don’t need.
Your base camp is set on a small hill and it seems that Boone has wisely “circled the wagons. The caravan is kept on top of the hill with the Securitrons providing long-range fire support, the remaining infantry finding crevices and rocks to take cover behind and BTO spread out between the lines. The 80’s are on the other side of the camp from you, meaning that while the enemy is pinned in front of the camp, you’re in danger of being flanked from behind by reinforcements from town. Boone spots you from his perch on the hill and jogs down the back side to greet you.
Boone: Looks like a long-range foot patrol, we should be able to handle them. How’s the town looking?
[They’re the 80’s and we kicked the hornets nest. Vehicles coming from the town, just a few minutes out. Numbers unknown but expect a fight.]
He nods and heads back up to your post while you take stock of the situation. Of all the times you didn’t bring heavy weaponry. A series of pops from grenades throw sand and dust in the air. First thing is first, take out that group immediately in front.
The raiders are using another hill across a few hundred yards of no man’s land as good cover, taking pot shots at any attempts to rush the hill. You get the attention of a Securitron and order them to pin the 80’s down with a steady stream of suppressing fire. You order four others behind you to watch for the vehicles. They begin laying down heavy pressure while you crouch run up behind two of the Veteran Rangers supporting a squad of infantry.
[We have more tangos inbound behind us, mounted with vehicles. Let’s rush this group before we’re surrounded.]
