<span class="mu-r">“I’m something of a private contractor.”</span> you admitted, slightly bolstered by the fact that you weren’t telling a lie. Not exactly. <span class="mu-r">“Actually, I’m starting a business with the guy that rents this apartment.”</span>
<span class="mu-b">“Is he your friend?”</span> Peter asked.
You flashed him a warm smile. <span class="mu-r">“My best friend. You should meet him sometime. I’m sure you two would get along great.”</span>
The rest of the conversation took a far more pleasant turn after that. You were just grateful to get his mind off of his father. The next time you saw Rich, you were gonna clean his clock.

After you finished cleaning up, Vic pulled you aside and grilled you about Cindy’s situation. When you explained that you would be the one taking care of her, that only prompted even more questions. Her most pressing concern was Cindy’s education. You weren’t exactly sure which school to register in, or how you would go about doing that.
Come to think of it, you aren’t even sure if she’s a registered citizen. Her family hid her in a bunker all her life, and forbade her from going up on her own. For all you knew, she was invisible to the system.
You’d probably have to look into that at some point. And while you were at it, you might need to enroll Peter as well. If Rich wasn’t gonna come and pick up his kid, then you’d just have to take matters into your own hands.
When exactly did it become your job to raise other people’s kids?

You hugged both your sister and nephew goodbye, and departed from Flint’s apartment when the sun started to set. You and Cindy swung back over to your warehouse and cleaned up a bit before Cat and Prowler arrived. You greeted them warmly, informing them of your success in driving the vampires out of your city.
As per your request, Cat had brought a series of stolen Ozberry smartphones for Cindy to choose from. They were all different colors, with slightly different designs and styles that varied from make and model.
While they did that, you and Prowler decided to proceed with the anti-vamp gadget workshop.
