“Fiora, it’s your sweater.” Kobashi reassures her by patting her head.
“B-But…” Fiora doesn’t know if she screwed up or not.
“You can lower your guard a bit, trust Kobashi.” You encourage the little girl!
“He’s polite, yes. But everyone is until they get mad…” Fiora trembles.
“What you need is to chill a bit. Look, Fiora.” You take out a coin. From where? How did you get it? Who knows! You play with the coin in your hands… then, bam! You turn it invisible. “It’s gone!”
“Ohm…” Fiora isn’t comfortable. “Y-You’re a psychic too?”
“I mean, anyone can learn magic. You don’t have to be a psychic.” You try to play it off as a mere trick as you turn the coin back to visible. Kobashi is watching attentively as well, and is surprised by your moves. “See?”
“B-But, that means you’re not special.” Fiora prefers being all powerful. “You must be a psychic to be special, that’s what my mother said. And to be really great, one needs to meet their potential.”
“Everyone is special in their own way, meeting your potential or not.” You’ve seen enough corny movies to know how to respond to a child.
“If everyone’s special, nobody is.” Fiora rejects the notion altogether.
“Eh, kinda? We’re all good at something. Sometimes we get to the same place from different routes.” You grab the empty cup and turn it invisible too.
“Wo-Wow, yours are truly psychic powers! It’s not that different from what I do.” Fiora doesn’t even believe you’re pulling tricks; she’s only seeing the magic for what it is. She’s happy, excited even.
“What makes you think it’s not a clever trick?” You ham it up for the act.
“I-I can see your energy fluctuating!” Fiora won’t be fooled. “Mom says I’m unique among the unique. My psychic perception is unmatched. I-I mean to say my mother…”
“Psychic powers, huh?” You don’t want another name for this shit…
“S-Sorry, it irked my mother as well. I know I must call them Spiritual Abilities. But I read a book about psychics and saw my abilities in it for the first time, and it stuck with me… Mother told me the book was fundamentally wrong in every conceivable way, but it made sense to me.” Fiora is very interested in you. “How was it for you? Having your powers, Mr. Phil?”
You found a way to connect with Fiora.
