You continue to standby and watch the argument unfold. You didn’t know what was going on, nor who was in the right or wrong. No point in intervening in something you didn’t have the first clue about. The male mage has threatened the female, whose name was evidently Nadia. However, she doesn’t look to be intimidated in the slightest. She continues standing there with a smug smirk, her hands resting on her ample hips. In contrast, the male mage was shaking with rage, looking as though he were ready to lash out. In the end, he finds the restraint to back off, stepping away from Nadia.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” The man says. “You should have taken my offer while you had the chance. I’d have treated you well. But you’ll reap what you’ve sowed soon enough.”
“You don’t scare me, Andreas.” Nadia says smoothly. “Why don’t you take yourself to food production? Your ‘talents’ would be better put to use making cupcakes for the actual sorcerers.”
Andreas turns with an angry flourish. The man sees red, both figuratively and literally, as he bumps directly into you.
“Watch where you’re going, damn foreigner!” Andreas seethes. He takes a second to examine you closely, before turning his head back to Nadia. “Heh, of course you’d like these talentless meatheads. Not a magical bone in him.” He steps around you, and marches off into Ithaca to do who knows what.
“Apologies, stranger.” Nadia says, walking up towards you and offering you a smile. “Don’t let that idiot bother you. He clearly doesn’t know the first thing about talent.” Like her ‘colleague’, she also sizes you up and down, only she clearly likes something she sees as she bites her bottom lip. “Wow. Brawn AND brains. It’s rare to see someone in these parts with that combination. Some folks think just because they can sling a few spells around that they don’t have to work on physical training. Glad to see you don’t adhere to such misgivings.”
>“...You can tell I can use magic?”
“Of course!” Nadia smiles. “But I’m just a bit more perceptive than most. Although, for a mage, you appear to be quite…uncomfortable in this setting. Has no one taught you how to block out the heat yet? Here, give me your hands and follow my lead.”
Nadia takes your considerably larger hands into her own. She traces lines into the air in front of you. Following her lead, you do just that, charging the gesture with a bit of magic. The results immediately astound you.
>“Woah! It’s like someone just turned off the sun!” You could no longer feel the oppressive heat that had been hounding you all this time. So this is what Cassius and Alvin had been doing to stay cool all this time? “I feel better already. Thank you, uhh…”
“Nadia.” The woman says. “And you are?”
>“Tristain d’Rusalka. I’m a contender in Princess Yulia’s competition.”
