I'm not so sure Vadar's lacking in experience with the acillians in creation or abilties, the whole purpose of this ork war was to teach our brothers cohesion. but if that were the case you make a good point.
Rather than Vadar being soley the caretaker of Astartes and Al4N that of acillians, they should both lead at least some degree of mixed units and learn the methods of creating both. There will be times, in fact we should encourage, the leadership of mixed units.
The reason I'm in favor of also promoting AL4N to the status of Co-Praetor rather than 2nd in command is simple: anticipation of exponential growth. We could get so large as to reasonably sustain two fronts, or at least become the great Juggernaut Ferrocreteroller we are destined to be.
"We who are the largest Legion, who include both Astarte's, men, and all that is between, supported by our machines and vast auxilia, cannot afford to waste even a single abled body or mind."
Our twin methods of creation, astartes and acillians, in addition to our lack of disdain for failed aspirants but use of them, will reward us well. Astartes are likely the hardest trial to overcome, they have more geneseeds, their duty and sole purpose is war. Acillians have a relatively greater chance of success perhaps, being mostly machine which our Forgeworlders are used to. And of course, both will have failed aspirants. But rathe than giving them the "Machine God's peace", they have so many options. Return home as heroes and sire more generations? Join the Skitarii as marshals and elites? Stay with us as armed chapter serfs.
To be an aspirant in the first place puts you a cut above the rest, even skitarii or armymen. To have even partial geneseeds or augments will make them into ideal special forces. Euthanising them is a waste. Even if their bodies become mangled, we can spare the brains, make them into techpriests or Ruststalkers.
