The Elders say the end came when the world grew cold.
They tell us that long ago, there were very large and powerful scrap-states that used Eldertech to wage war on each other. Not like the duels that the Oldbloods conduct today, but great gargantuan wars, millions of men dying for their scrap-state. They say that the honored mechs were much more common then, like foot soldiers instead of the steeds of the most prestigious scrap lords or their scions. Personally, you find it hard to believe that there could be so many without them all starving.
Believe it or not though, that age came to an end on the Day the Sun Fell. Most of the old world died, and those few that remained had to remain in the old Burrows for over a century. Your parents' generation was the first to emerge from the Burrows, and they set up the scrap-states and the Laws of Blood you know today, so that the wars from the old world would never occur again. No, people, food, and fuel were simply too rare for such wasteful wars. Instead, the duels and the scrap knights came to be, using what Eldertech mechs that could be scavenged to engage in personal combat to resolve conflict on behalf of their scrap states.
Now, with tensions rising among the scrap lords and more and more Duels of Honor and Duels of Blood being declared, the need for scrap knights is greater than ever. Your father and your father’s father pledged their ancestral Eldertech mech to the scrap lord of Scarlet Barrows, a small but wealthy scrap nation. Your father unfortunately fell in a Duel of Blood a few months ago; you’d been given time to mourn, but now your lord demands you take his place as a scrap knight, your newly repaired and refitted steed ready for battle once more.
>Atlas: A mech designed for all methods of combat, wielding a heavy saw on one arm for close quarters and a macro las-caster to annihilate foes at long range on the other. Relies more on skilled piloting and tactics than sheer firepower to take down its foes.
>Behemoth: A heavily armored and armed monster of a mech, unleashing the power of two light missile batteries to shred the opponent’s armor in close range and finishing the job with its rack of medium missiles or a good old pair of fisticuffs. Can outslug nearly anyone who dares approach, but has trouble with mobile or long range opponents.
>Charon: Quick and speedy, this mech makes up for its lacking durability with maximal firepower and unprecedented mobility. Using its dual autocannons, it lays down a punishing barrage of firepower before repositioning out of danger.
