Judging by its earlier movements, you deduced that the demon was far too slow and lumbering—its manual dexterity too clumsy and uncoordinated to do anything about an attack that was up-close and personal. But apparently, you’d severely underestimated it, because a moment later, an arm as thick as a tree trunk slammed into you from the left, knocking you clear away from the demon.
Your body bounced along the pavement several times, skidding and sliding until you dug your hands into the ground to slow yourself down. You glared back up at the offending party with pure hatred, but that feeling was immediately replaced by amazement and…disgust.
The demon hadn’t just swatted you away with that desperate swipe. It also pulverized a decent chunk of its stomach! Its guts were hanging out in plain sight, dragging along the ground as it heaved and staggered. The thing was far sturdier than it looked.
<span class="mu-r">“Ugh. I take it back. Your insides are ugly too…”</span>
As if it understood you perfectly, the demon roared and charged at you with more speed than you would’ve thought possible from a creature of its size. It was then that W sprung into action, landing on top of its head and yanking at one of its many horns.
With a strained grunt, she managed to break one of them off and shoved the pointy end into its left eye. The demon bellowed and swatted at the silent webslinger with a reckless sort of desperation. You were about to prepare a webline trap so that you could cause it to trip, but it surprised you by vomiting another torrent of acid, first at you, and then into the sky to ward off W. Both of you swung away from the sudden downpour of acid rain, and Ana and Glass seemed to be able to take cover in time to avoid being splashed.
But the Deep One wasn’t nearly so lucky.
<span class="mu-r">“Look out!”</span>
Locked in mortal combat with the long-haired demon, her movements were severely locked down. So much so that she didn’t have any time to avoid the acid. She kept fighting, her manic grin becoming a mask of pain as she gritted her teeth so hard that her gums bled. The acid burned her abnormally tough flesh upon contact, opening up holes in it and burning her clothes until they were little more than bloody tatters. You thought you could even see raw muscle through the holes that opened up in her flesh!
With nothing but sheer tenacity and dogged determination, Iara fought on, struggling to remain conscious through the pain, no doubt. But your heart dropped when you saw the state of the long-haired demon. It whipped its long, silvery main around, roaring into the sky, almost completely unscathed!
Somehow, it had shielded itself from the acid attack with its hair, the acrid substance sliding off it like water against laminated plastic. You didn’t know how this demon ranked on Elsa’s charts, but he seemed unusually strong for a demon minion.
