You try to find the words. “I… uh…” The tension in the air could be cut with a tail slicer. “I’m expecting you in the afternoon for training, work hard.”
Bulma smiles awkwardly. “Ah, of course! Right! I’ll see if I can get some things done ‘til then. See ya!” The door closes behind her and you sigh as you swirl your chair around to watch the stars through your round window.
It’s not even five minutes after that that you hear your door ring. “What is it?” You ask, exasperated. The conversations with Bulma leave you spent in a different way than battle does. You much prefer the exhaustion of battle yourself.
You hear Kalabash’s voice. “Prince Vegeta. Calava and I would like to share some information with you.”
You turn around towards the door. “Come in then.”
The two Saiyan warriors enter, Kalabash and Calava approach your desk and you get up to greet them with a handshake each. “Well?” You say.
Kalabash is the first to speak. “Excuse me for not telling you of this earlier, prince, I thought the information was irrelevant, but Calava has made me see this otherwise.” She nods at the mention. “As you know, the destruction of planet Vegeta happened almost 25 years ago.”
You nod. “Of course.”
He continues. “A group of Saiyans formed soon after. We were a small, motley bunch. From super-elites to non-combatants that had been away during the destruction of the planet. Though we were mostly low-class warriors.”
Your eyes widen. “What?! And you didn’t tell me before?!”
Kalabash gulps at your reaction. “It didn’t last long, only about 5 years after planet Vegeta’s destruction.” He looks down to the ground, anger in his face. “Frieza hounded us down, our leaders were killed, our organization faltered and eventually each group went its own way to try and survive.”
You watch Kalabash tell his story. He seems clearly devastated as he tells you of the atrocities Frieza committed. His hunting parties were ruthless. For once, the Saiyans were the ones suffering from the persecution of a greater force.
Meanwhile, you lived a cozy life aboard Frieza’s mothership. The thought stings you to no end.
Calava chimes in. “My father, Taliso, was apparently the leader of one of these resistance cells, though he abandoned it after my mother was killed.” There’s almost a level of disgust in her tone. The Saiyan way is to fight until the end and take as many of them with you.
“To care for you.” Kalabash says, gritting his teeth. “After Seboia died, Taliso couldn’t bear the thought of leaving you alone in this galaxy.”
“He should’ve fought until the end.” She says. “Not to protect me, but for the sake of the Saiyan race.”
“He fought for you!” Kalabash exclaims, irritated. “There is no Saiyan race anymore!” He moves his arm to the side in anger.
She drives her index finger into his chestplate, facing him directly with a glare. “How dare you say that in front of our Prince!”
