Before you all get shot, you pull Rayle behind the nearest bulky computer. Snail guy is a bit slow to take cover, but his shell seems bulletproof enough. You shake the pony a bit, trying to snap her out of her seething-induced madness at least for a moment, and scream over the gunfire.
– "Rayle, smoke the whole room!"
– "Why?!"
– "So nobody can see shit, and we all fight in melee!"
That gets through to her. She intensifies her steam production to extreme degree, while you pop a tentacle out of cover and make as mush airborne spores as you can in the general direction of the humans. They don't seem to be eager to rush you in melee, confident in their long-range superiority. Good, gives you the time you need.
– "Snail dude, slime the whole room!" You scream to the (provisional) second party member, who's busy taking potshots at the humans with his acid globs.
– "Why?" He doesn't sound very happy to be ordered around, but there's also consideration in his voice. He's scared and angry, but monsterfication didn't drive him crazy.
– "So they can't rush us!"
– "You think they will?" He's asking more questions but already switching from targeting the humans in cover to just spraying all over the room in their general direction.
– "That or I'm gonna spore them out!" You stop talking, focusing on spore cloud production. Between you and Rayle it's incredible how quickly you can hotbox the whole room. That much steam also raises the temperature quite a bit. You can hear Rayle cough and pull her shirt up to her face, neither she nor the snail guy being immune to the spores.
The gunfire pauses, understandably. Visibility in the room is so bad you can barely make out snail guy who's only about three meters away. You can hear humans cough a lot, and then a thumping of footsteps. They're actually going in then! Rayle hears it too, gives you a thumbs up, and jumps out of cover to meet the first soldier with a punch to the face shield. The man is noticeably bigger than her and has his sword out, but it doesn't seem to faze her as she really lays into him. More soldiers materialize from the steam, coughing pretty badly, as they try to get a swing on you. Their technique is good, but monster powers let you hold your own pretty well, until you step into the random glob of slime and get stuck. Right, it's hard to make out all the hazards, even for you. "At least it wasn't a glob of acid," you think as two soldiers(one partuially glued and both coughing) lay into you with their swords.
