Lucian knew it was only a formality at this point. Of all the things the King has likely asked Adok before their meeting here today it was whether the runesmith through his companion would agree to these terms.
“Your Lordship, it would be our honor to serve as such on your behalf!” Lucian declared firmly as he faced the Dwarf King, “It is my responsibility, as a Warrior of Morr, to see all of the foul monsters of undeath killed. If it means helping the Dwarfs prepare for their invasion, then you will have it.”
The King smiled to those words, the fact being that Adok had told him the absolute truth in these matters.
“Your Highness,” This time it was Gillot who spoke out to the Lord, “I too pledge my support of this cause. To think that there are enemies on the borders of Bretonnia, I must be witness myself so that I can accurately inform my Father of the threat.”
“I see…” The King leaned in towards Gillot with suspicion written across his face, “You must understand, Prince Gillot of Bordeleaux, that I am not so ignorant about your grudge with your fellow warrior to my right. For a Dwarf, such grudges will act up even during times of War. The Ancestor Gods have shown us time and time again that truly worthy grudges even against our own kind should not be so easily forgotten.”
“In Bretonnia, when called up in a war, it is declared by the Dukes leading it that all Feuds are to be put on hold in defense of the realm. This doubles for Errantry Wars and Crusades, both of which this mighty threat we saw yesterday can call for.”
“But no Duke has yet called for these wars.” The Dwarf pointed out with a sickly grin, “Don’t think you are going to get around me with that your Princling. I’ve seen plenty of Dwarfs trying to pull what you are. I want an Oath.”
Of all the things Lucian expected it was not the sheer offense upon Gillot. Raising his head to speak, it allowed a full display at the sheer amount of disrespect he was given by the Lord of this hold. A stain upon one’s honor that was so great that it might drive Knights to challenge their own Lord into a duel.
Yet he did not. He instead spoke to the Lord while slamming his hand into his chest, “Upon my name, that of my Father, the realm of Bordeleaux, and the Lady, I swear that I shall not bring harm to Lucian or his Companions.”
“Your Oath is heard.” Laughed the Dwarf before looking at the others, “Well you all better get going. You’ve got a long journey through the Underway to get to.”
