You turn to the group of D-Boys around you.
>Hey. What was the last thing that breached and killed those people? Anybody know?
Most of them shake their heads and shrug. One old guy about your age walks up to you though.
“Oh, that thing from a few years ago? Killed almost everyone that was living here. Only a few of us still around from back then, what with tests and all. Was some kinda king kong ape man. Snuck in without anybody noticing. And, since everyone was staying put in their cells, it started ripping people to pieces pretty quickly. That’s why, if something gets through that door,” He points across the room towards the airlock, “we rush it and do our best to take it down.”
Another guy pipes up. “I heard they captured bigfoot.”
“Remind me, how many times have you gotten your mind wiped, Bob?”
Bob shrugs. “Uh, dunno.”
“Exactly. So shut the fuck up.”
>Oh. So you all got together and beat it?
“No. We were all scared shitless.” He points to the Choco King. “He could tell you more though, if he wanted to.”
>Why, what does he know?
“He was the one who killed it.”
You look back at the Choco King. He’s quietly eating way at the chocolate you gave him. The man isn’t thin, but he’s no weight lifter. You’re suddenly starting to reconsider just how dangerous the man is.
>Okay. What’s an anti-mass spectrometer?
This time another D-Boy walks over, a glasses wearing guy, in his 30s or 40s by the look of it.
“A device that analyses exotic materials. Very important piece of quipment. Room sized, big energy array. Located in the Anomalous Materials Laboratory. And I doubt they boosted it to 105%, to do such a thing would risk a resonance cascade, which would be catastrophic in the least. Administration isn’t that foolish. Though I’m surprised you’re interested in it.”
>You seem to know a lot about it.
The man shrugs. “I used to work there. Emphasis used to. Got demoted. No, I’m not willing to talk about it.”
He wanders off and starts insulting the guy who claimed they were boosting it. They really demote their own people to D-Class? You turn back to the guy who survived the ape-man.
>So, which one's the anomalous group? The small lights one?
He nods. “Yeah, that’s them. One of them can summon small lights. The big light is the shopkeep, he comes here whenever there’s a lockdown like this.”
You thank him and get up to go see the anomalous group. Before you do, he grabs your arm and stops you.
“By the way, word of advice. Don’t talk about either group with the guards. Best not make any trouble, for yourself especially.”
