Since I'd been informed of it this morning, I'd been wondering what needed my attention from Krina and Catastrovania lately. The two seemed to be collaborating on their own little project from what I could see. Since I was in the command room, I decided to call Krina up to have her explain to me with Catastrovania.
When the R&R head arrived, she had Catastrovania pull up something on the console there for me to see. I leaned in and looked. It was a... square of some kind?
[KRINA] "Ehhh? You think it's a square...???"
[CATASTROVANIA] "Oh my god, you're as tech illiterate as Hale-san was before I taught him everything I know. Baka!"
'Really, you both should have expected that.'
[KRINA] "What you're looking at is a type of chip implanted into the brains of the Chemically Immortal. Think Samurai and Wei."
'Oh... So, like a control mechanism then.'
Krina snapped her fingers.
[KRINA] "Exactly. These chips are known as habiliment amulets. They're the primary control and influencing devices that the Trinity issues its cyborgs. They're the main thing that sets the Chemically Immortal apart from us Metahumans. Really, we're all cyborgs in the end, they just have way more augments than us... and these chips. See, their brains are fully intact. The brain is a sacred organ, it can't be disrupted in Trinity dogma... however, as long as there's enough of the organic parts left, they can sort of skirt around that and say it's approved. That's just religion for you. The brains of Chemical Immortals have only enough augmentation to allow these chips' insertions."
'So, why are you showing me this?'
[KRINA] "Well, it's the fact that these chips also tend to give rise to certain holy phenomena through the faith of the recipient. What I'm saying is, these chips make the Chemically Immortal immune to psychic tampering and the like. Their brains are just not able to messed with. It wards off the influence of anything and anyone but the Trinity. It's the crux of why their soldiers are incorruptible by the Afterseas."
That is true...
I do remember the first Samurai I fought. When I used a psychic spell against one of the Ashigaru, I sensed that innate resistance. I could not have changed the mind of someone like that. Although, because my power was overwhelming, I simply managed to destroy the Ashigaru with brute force.
It certainly helped me grasp the definition of a Chemical Immortal better and differentiate it from a Metahuman.
[KRINA] "Anyway, the reason we're showing you this is because I need to acquire the schematics for these chips."
'Ah, to find a way to invent a countermeasure for them?'
