Instead, you smirked, irreverence back in full swing as you waved her off. “It was a good spar. You really are the only one here worth my time, you know. Let’s kick it up a notch next time. I could show you the basics of shunpo?”
“Y-yeah.” She mumbles, looking away from you. “That sounds… good.”
You can’t resist.
“And we could take things… a step further, if you’re up for it.” You whisper in her ear, having used shunpo to suddenly appear behind her. Tsukuya yelps, jumping and swiftly turning to face you, looking more bashful than you’d ever seen her before.
“Um… I…”
You laugh at her reaction, causing her to first calm down, and then get irritated at you having fun at her expense. “You, you… asshole! Stop making fun of me!”
You look at her with another smirk on your face. “Oh, come on, Tsukuya-chan. Don’t act like ya don’t like it.”
“I- You- Ugh!” She grunts like she had to you before, but this time you can see her smiling. “Whatever. You’d best be here, on time, for next time. You wouldn’t like what I’ll do if you aren’t.”
“Aye aye, ma’am.” You respond, lazily saluting, to which she looks at you with an exasperated expression, before she laughs, looking happy for the first time since you’d met her.
“Bye, Danketsu-kun.” She simply states, before walking away, with a noticeable slip in her step. You watch her go, before you sink to the ground, with a hand on your face.
You can’t help it. It’s so cliche, but… you laugh. Louder and louder, you laugh into your hand, in disbelief. How could it all have gone so well? Just like that, you’d snapped up the greatest prize available to you, and she was almost completely yours already. You could scarcely believe it.
If gaining pawns was this easy, getting everything would be a cakewalk.
