This isn’t great. You can’t have an emotional reunion when half the party is locked in prison. This is almost like a microcosm of what this last adventure is all about. You say ‘almost’ because you’re going to politely ask Dr. Calamity to take her out instead of going on a thrilling life-threatening mission. You welcome your life being a little more tame.
“Let’s ask the doctor for permission. He’s a reasonable guy.” You’ll take Jaylene out of jail again! Who hasn’t had their own little sister locked in a cage inside a clinic before? It’s like a rite of passage in this town.
“There’s literally a prison cell in one of the rooms.” Odetta disagrees.
“That’s on us. It’s a long story.” You forgot who brought the Ame cage in here.
“If it doesn’t have to do with something like filming a horror movie, I’m going to stay skeptical. And the movie shit is a stretch.” Odetta points out.
“Had a friend who was into them, his dream was to film one. He died in one of these halls…” You sigh.
“Bullshit. Are you trying to scare me...?” Odetta dislikes where this is going.
“It’s true.” You deadpan.
“In the halls? Or do you mean in the operating room? Or did he have a heart attack on his way to his room...?” Odetta doesn’t like what she’s hearing.
“Again. Long story.” You shake your head.
“It’s sooo reassuring when you don’t elaborate. I love being in the dark, it’s the coziest place in the world next to a morgue or a graveyard.” Odetta drips in sarcasm. “In my experience, great places to meet people.” She’s not lying…?
“It happened during Judgment Day, that should suffice for now. A tale for another time.” You shake your head.
“Sucks. Glad it didn’t keep you down for long, or else Jaylene would be locked elsewhere.” Odetta is nice enough for someone who is never pleasant to anyone.
“Let’s find the doc. Trust me.” You remain positive.
“Lead the way, cowboy.” Odetta grins. She actually trusts you, this doesn’t feel right just yet to you.
