With their break adjourned, the party continues to explore the caverns. Not long after, they end up walking down a long tunnel with only a few narrow cracks and crevices to the sides- and then they hear something approaching.
“Shh- hear that?!” YJ says, his fine senses picking it up. Everyone becomes quiet- and they hear the loud sounds of voices and metal clanking.
”Oh! Could there be people down here too?!”
”...It must be that mercenary we didn't take with us last time. I really didn't want to run into him down here...”
”How do you know it isn't something else- a monster? A cacophony of spirits?”
“Come now lad- what dim-witted monster of the mountain or animal of the deep earth can forge armor and talk in many voices? What else could possible live here with such intelligence? It can only be a group of human beings.”
”...Now I'm not so sure. We can dowse the torch and hide.”
“Fool! If you creep around in the darkness when they come, they'll discover us laying in wait for them- when they bring their light. They'll think we be highwaymen and robbers! That's not a good first impression.”
”But they are be a bunch of highwaymen and robbers!”
”I mean, we don't have anything to rob yet... just a bunch of mushrooms.”
“Besides, if we greet them all nice-like, we might be able to team up. Or at least trade information. If they tell us what they found that way, we could save a lot of time on our exploration!”
”Yeah, and if they aren't friendly, greeting them just means we're sitting ducks.”
”I can feel their march through my peg leg. Last chance to make a decision.”
”Jon- quick! What do we do?!”
