“Hmmm.” You definitely get the sense that in the throes of prayer is NOT the right time to slap the nun’s ass. You may strike up some smalltalk while she supplicates, though. “..I never was much of a believer, to tell you the truth, sister. You mind teaching me a little about the CORPUS CHURCH?”
“Oh, you’re not of the faith? You know, that’s quite rare nowadays–you don’t meet many in the capitol who don’t fall into at least a schism.” Mari’s tone is more inquisitive than indignant. “It’s.. to put it simply, we worship the UNFATHOMABLE, a great, unknowable entity of divine power. But, well.. ‘worship’ isn’t quite the right word. The church seeks to make it known–to study and understand the kind of power that even monsters shrink from in the form of its cross idols and symbology. In that sense, the CORPUS CHURCH is sometimes more of a college than a faith. We believe it sleeps in the moon, which is a kind of egg, though I know of a schism that believes it sleeps beneath us, in a great chasm..”
“That’s the most you’ve said all evening, sister.” You whistle. “You buy into all of that yourself?”
“Oh, well..” The nun glances to the ground. “I mean.. of course. There are a few proven truths to the UNFATHOMABLE that I can’t deny–especially its power over monsters. It’s just that the dogma isn’t quite the reason I took up the cloth. I grew up in a church orphanage like SAINT TEPES’ myself, and I saw the good it did for children. I wanted to put in what I took out, so I dedicated myself to the faith once I came of age. I think it’s been good for me, and I like taking care of the kids.. though, with children disappearing, and rumors of the beast sweeping into the capitol by night..”
Her face falls. You must say, you didn’t expect her faith to be so insubstantial–most of the cloth are firm adherents of the church. How cute that her reasons are so virtuous and pure-hearted.
>You’d better go. You don’t want to stick around in one place too long, and you’re not far from your home.
>Tell her something about yourself, so that you might ingratiate yourself better with her.
>Attempt to cheer her up.
