>>6146474You were not the type to shirk from danger. Ever since your academy days, you were always eager to throw yourself in the frontlines of combat. Even just on this trip alone, you’d done it more times than perhaps necessary. Still, there was one common factor in all those situations. You could fucking see. And while you were not too worried about yourself, you could not say the same about your companions. Even if you made it to the other end of the hall in a mad rush, you had a feeling you’d lose more than one ally. You needed to be hasty, but even haste had its limits.
>“Move together slowly. Adeline, walk in the center of the formation and be ready to intercept any enemy attacks. Cuthbert and myself will lead the charge. Torchbearer, you’re behind us. Stay vigilant and keep your head on a swivel.”The group begins their pace across the hall, weapons at the ready and eyes darting across the hall for anything that might lunge out from the shadows. For the first few steps, things progress smoothly, and the pace begins hastening a bit. Suddenly, from the corner of your eye, you catch something swinging around from behind two of the pillars in the corner of the room. The assassins had chosen it as their hiding place, and they make a lunge for Cassius, who walks on the outer edge of the group. Before they can reach him though, Adeline is on top of things. She blocks both dagger thrusts with her shield, absorbing the attack and throwing them off balance.
Alvin’s men, Cuthbert and May are on the men in an instant, delivering killing blows. As they do so, assassins emerge from the opposite pillars, drawing their daggers towards Nadia. Just as before though, Adeline intercepts the attack, throwing them off balance. Watching the knight work is impressive. In your time with her, you knew she was not the speediest fighter. Heavily-clad armor knights rarely were. Yet she somehow seems to possess a preternatural instinct for danger, and does not hesitate to place herself in harm’s way when it comes to protecting her comrades. After blocking the two assassins, she lunges out with her spear, impaling one in the midsection and killing him. Cuthbert eliminates the other, decapitating him with a single strike of his halberd.
>Adeline: +3 SPD PermanentlyAfter killing the four assassins, your group resumes their tight formation, continuing to walk across the hallway. You progress with no issue for a few seconds, before two more assassins try to flank you from behind. Just as before though, Adeline intercepts the blows meant for Elric, and once more they are quickly dispatched by Alvin’s men.
