A few months went by as the two, along with some help from Malcador, began their examination of the Thousand Sons and the Flesh Change.
As TalOS had summarized the issues of the Flesh Change was tied to the Thousand Sons in the most direct manner it could have been. No other servants of the Imperium had fear of the Flesh Change coming upon them when it occurred so readily within the Thousand Sons themselves.
Thus the focus was on the Thousand Sons. The hard study upon their psyche and the souls in which each of their battle brothers hosted.
The discoveries that were made upon Xana were by far the most helpful when it came to this. Ideas of what a soul was in the past were but falsehood when the soul was now actively studied by the men of their current era. Such technology will always be rare, TalOS Reasoned, for it took one in a thousand different psykers to find a psyker who was compatible with the machine interface that allowed viewing of the soul.
Within the first month of research qualifications were made as images of Thousand Sons were captured and analyzed. These being the Psykers, the Nominal, Psyker Inflicted, and the Inflicted.
Such differences were made because the structure of the soul and the infection varied between each one. A normal Thousand Son had a soul which was enlarge compared to a standard human mortal. This, TalOS explained, was simply the difference between Astartes and Humans which would draw no ire. Psykers, on the other hand, had a bright soul which did not follow their mortal forms. A symptom of being of the Warp.
The next was those infected with the Flesh Change. Studying they saw that the soul, no matter which one shown, was devoid of any human form upon being infected. Their soul would run across the body in lines of mutation as well as mutation as well as more. When the decision was made to allow a terminal patient to fully succumb to the infection they watched as the mutation ultimately chased after the designs that the soul formed.
Thus a discovery was made showing that it was, with no more guesswork, that the Flesh Change was an infection of the soul.
But that was something which was shared between the Legion’s Psykers and other infected.
