Jonathon decides to squat by the chest for a few minutes to pick the lock.
<span class="mu-b">"Guard my back while I pop this..."</span>
It's not a difficult lock, but he isn't exactly the most skilled locksmith and he's certainly out of practice. By the time you've burned through another half of a torch he's finally finished it. Looking inside, the group finds an empty chest with a loose scattering of what appears to be pieces of paper in the bottom of the chest, thrown away and disheveled.
<span class="mu-b">"Papers, but no book..."</span>
<span class="mu-r">"That is useless to us. None of us can read."</span>
"Actually, I think Jon can read."
<span class="mu-b">"Just a few things. Just my name, the name of a few shops, things like that. This is way too complicated for me."</span>
<span class="mu-r">"A bit disappointing to spend all that time to just find some paper. Maybe we could burn it for more light?"</span>
<span class="mu-b">"No! You idiot. These papers could be extremely valuable- to the right person. The question is, why aren't they in a full book? They'd be much more useful as a complete set. Maybe even a spellbook..."</span>
"Maybe they were in a book before- which was shook loose? This chest could have already been stolen but a few pages slipped out and were forgot about."
<span class="mu-b">"Good idea, Elly. Lets store these in your bag- keep it away from the wet as to not ruin them..."</span>
With that, you have found some <span class="mu-i">mysterious pages</span>. With nothing else for you here, you leave the chest and gingerly avoid the trap to continue on through your adventure. While the papers were an interesting find, you still haven't quite found any treasure that would make this expedition and the risks worth it. You've got a good feeling you may be getting close however...
