>>5759166>>5741650After finishing Revelation Space I was reading some random mathematics about triply periodic Neovius minimal surfaces and I had this random idea for a starship concept, basically any pleasing unusual geometrical configuration could become a spaceship design. Given that ever since Dune sci-fi is obsessed with space folding (the aapl Foundation tv series shamelessly and monstrously just grafts this onto Asimov) I had this idea what about some sort of ribbon ship, it might look like a slice of universe that has just been curled within the confines of a metal lattice of the starship hull. Minimal surfaces resemble say the catenary like volume of a soap bubble stretched between two rings or very approximately the awning surface across circus tentpoles etc. It would be a bizarre look for a starfaring vessel, imagine some topological monstrous shape that twists and self intersects or extrudes disturbing asymptotic spikes that stab / puncture reality (I think the hyperspace drives in Stars Without Number rpg are called Spike Drives)
