>>5255335You lazily flick your eyes to the side, eying up Kazeko, the girl’s stare towards the instructor unbroken. “Oi, Kazeko,” You whisper, crossing your arms in front of your face as you continue to ‘sleep’. “You’re into this sort of stuff?”
“Yes.” She replied instantly, her quiet voice meaning she didn’t even have to whisper to not be heard by anyone else over the instructor. “I’ve handled weapons for as long as I can remember, so…”
“Right.” You mutter, turning your gaze back to the instructor: “So I’m guessin’ you know a lot about zanpakuto and shit, then?”
At that, she shook her head almost imperceptibly. “No. They’re the weapons of justice with which shinigami cast judgement on hollows and strike them down for their crimes, and they’re also the perfect implement for an honourable duel, as what better to defend your honour than a weapon that is part of yourself?”
A light filled her eyes as she said that, even as she kept staring straight ahead. You took a note of that. “I see…”
Shin bumped you then, gesturing over to the front of the class. “Hey man, wake up. It’s sword time!”
You made a show of leaning up straight and stretching out, even throwing a yawn in there. “Alright, alright, I’m up. How’s this shit even work, then?”
The instructor shot you an annoyed glare. “A pleasure for you to join us, Hokkyokusei, and a good question besides. Why don’t you come down here first, and you can see how this shit works yourself, hmm?”
A patter of laughter ran through the class, mostly from Tsunayashiro and his cronies, plus people who didn’t know any better. You shrugged, getting up and lazily wandering down the steps as if you didn’t realise how crucial this truly was to your career.
The instructor waited for you to come, before taking one of the asauchi and holding it out to you, hilt first. “Claim it.” He stated simply but firmly, and the class went silent, all watching you in anticipation.
You…
>Take hold of it with trepidation>Excitedly grab it>Coolly claim it with complete calm and confidence>Refuse (why?)
