That was a question Alan asked himself all the time. For the past few months, he was Alan simply because being Alan was convenient for his purposes. Alan was normal, he was kind, confident and he always smiled even when his body was torn apart because he knew it was for the sake of others.
As the young man watched Luis run past him, followed immediately by the Chie and his gaudy outfit with that insanity in his eyes that Alan feel scared. Every time a member of the crew ran off, every time they got hurt or died a small piece of him died with them. Endless potential and warmth snuffed possibly snuffed out in a moment.
In the split second Alan was passed by the Operator, his brain shifted into high gear and he realized instantly that Alan the Psycho or Alan the Enforcer couldn’t keep up with Chien. Both were too Hard, too slow and methodical in their work.
In an imperceivable second, the young man knew he needed to be someone else. Someone cool, and deadly. Who reaped lives like wheat on a scythe and flicked away bullets like droplets of rain beating against the streets.

Albatros was already running towards Chien, watching his back with a smile as they both ran towards the smoke.
“You can stop here if you want old man but I’m going further!”
[Albatross was cocky, he was young but he had the skills to back it up. What were a few stragglers gonna do to him except waste ammo.]
He ran past the Operator with his knife in one hand and his pistol in another, completely ignoring the shirt beside him. Like a grinning bolt of lighting, he dashed forward dodging and blocking bullets as he went before vaulting over a crate his knife twisting with inhuman precision as it severed the woman’s throat.
[This is how Assassins moved. Their ebb and flow, it was a beat Albatross learned from a young age. A beat he’d known all his life, the only thing he’d known all his life till recently]
There was a look of terror in the woman’s eyes as she futilely tried to stem the bleeding but the red geyser would not stop. Her eyes were scared, pleading but Albatross knew there was no saving her now and his face turned into a happy cheery grin as blood splattered across him. It was Euphoria.
[Alan would never revel in taking a life because the life of some nameless extra was meaningless to him. It was simply a process to the psycho, a means to an end for his goals but to Alabatross this was his ecstasy.]
Without missing a beat, he leaned past the woman and fired his pistol at the man behind her still happy even when the shot missed because he knew. Albatross knew it was only a matter of time.
