A valid point, but one that Master Larid seems to have anticipated. “We do. During the uprising that saw this planet liberated from the Tof, the MSDF claimed several containment field devices. Thanks to Master Aure’s negotiations, the Triumvirate has secured a handful in order to contain Force-sensitive prisoners.”
That seems to please most of them. Then…
Tsui Choi coughs, shuffling to come beside you, before the Triumvirate. “Much as this is in keeping with tradition, I fear that there is one person missing in this legal drama. If the Triumvirate is truly in keeping with the traditions of the Jedi High Council, then Master Potkin should have the opportunity to defend herself of the charges laid against her.”
More than one person looks at the Aleena as if he’d grown a second head. You yourself aren’t exempt from gaping…and yet you can’t find yourself disagreeing.
Tsui Choi regards the Triumvirate coolly. “I understand that in legalese, this is merely a preliminary hearing. And that while we do not conduct internal Jedi masters like the late Republic’s courts, it would be nothing short of unjust to simply lock her away without giving her a chance to speak.”
…clever. Between the lines, Choi is verifying for himself and the others if the Triumvirate is truly in keeping with the teachings of the Jedi. And whether or not he’d be willing to bind himself to an authority claiming to have (temporarily) replaced the High Council. For good or ill, he doesn’t look like he’s jockeying for power by speaking on the Conclave’s behalf…that kind of politicking wasn’t in his file.
But the Triumvirate takes it as well as you’d expect. Aure looks like she’s swallowed a lemon, and Larid remains stony-faced. It falls to Kosa to nod, and say with a deliberate, professional politeness: “It is as you say, Master Choi. This is merely one of many preliminary steps of…dealing with Master Potkin. We would very much like her account of what had happened on Kessel.”
…you’ve heard that tone of voice before. It’s the kind that Arotta said promised a very bad time for the directed target. In your lover’s case, a light scolding more often than not, but it probably won’t be the same for Potkin.
Larid breaks his silence, nodding towards you. “Farren, you’re excused. We’ll talk later. Thank you for your testimony.”
“And saving our brothers and sisters from the Sith,” adds Kosa with a smile. “Certainly no small deed.”
Aure snorts, her earlier indignation with Choi forgotten as she drawls: “Ya did real good, kid. Just don’t go getting a big head.”
Suppressing the urge to roll your eyes, you bow respectfully, first to the Triumvirate, then the Conclave. “May the Force be with you.”
As the door closes behind you, and you step off the Boss Bantha, you think about the Triumvirate’s…you wouldn’t necessarily call it bloodlust towards Potkin.
