The halls are somehow both opulent and spartan at the same time, vibrantly painted in rich colors but with lots of empty space. It's like somebody's idea of how a fancy Edo-style inn looks. Was this based on a memory of back home, or just a westerner's imagination? Either way, it's a sumptuous decor to kill people amidst.
