Perhaps it is the gruesome reputation of the blood-drinkers, or maybe it's how fearsome they seem as they charge across the lakeside, shrieking at the top of their lungs. No matter the cause, the Toprocravic defenders break before the first blow is struck. It starts with a handful of warriors who turn and run, only to stumble into the tribesmen who were behind them. This terror proves to be contagious – soon hundreds of the sealskins are tripping over each other as they try to flee.
What follows isn't a battle, but a slaughter. The blood-drinkers barrel into the routed rabble and cut a bloody swathe through them – the sound of their crazed laughter and clamorous prayers almost drown out the screams of their victims. The beast-bringers arrive soon after the Vuvovic and while they don't fight with the same insane fervour, the Protavic act with cunning and guile. They surround and subdue lone many of the Toprocravic before they can flee, and a great deal of those who are able to run are shot down before they can escape.
When the bloodshed is over, our tribe's dead can be counted on a single hand, while the wounded can be counted on two. The same can not be said for the sealskins – over a hundred and twenty of the Toprocravic have been slain, while almost two hundred of them are grievously injured. Less than half of them managed to escape and run down the northern bank of the Choslitol – those who tried to flee across the river were slain as they tried to climb into their canoes.
While the Vuvovic make themselves busy by draining the nectar that flows through the veins of their captives, the leaders of the tribe convene to discuss the next move. Tradil Val, one of the chief blood-drinkers, claims responsibility for this victory and suggests that the Protavic should pursue the survivors downstream, but some of the family heads disagree.
Our tribe could settle for this victory. The Protavic tribe has just seized control of the primary territory of the Toprocravic. That is good enough.
Our tribe could pursue the survivors. The beast-bringers should purge any trace of the sealskins from the northern bank of the Choslitol.
Our tribe could assault the southern shore. Our tribe's warriors should cross the river and claim the land that once belonged to the smoke people.
Our tribe could divide and conquer. The blood-drinkers will chase the sealskins who fled from battle, while the beast-bringers will cross the river.
>Settle for this victory.
>Pursue the survivors.
>Assault the southern shore.
>Divide and conquer.
