The explosion of powder and light burns through your barrel and courses through the air and, with a decisive crack, punctures the wolf’s head. The beastman stills for just a moment before, with a great groan of dust and blood and fur, falls to the ground. You’ve slain Morne.
“Lady Ava..?!” Noelle rushes past you, her fluttering gown trailing out behind her as she approaches your guide. The dhampir remains in a half-bent position, the sword still stuck through her chest. Her breath is ragged and shallow. “Lady Ava, please, allow me to–”
“..I’ll be.. fine. I can.. regenerate from.. this much.” Ava gasps, her words staggered. With the foul wet sound of flesh against steel, she takes a deep breath and rents herself backward–the blade and its barbs ease out from her ribs and clatters still by the wolf. As she takes a low breath, she stumbles back into the doll’s arms. “..It just hurts.”
You take a moment to regroup–you awaken the unconscious berserker and set the dhampir to rest on your rucksack. She figures that she’ll recover fully within an hour, but you’re without a guide in the meantime. You decide to set camp in the area whilst you wait, not far from her brother’s corpse.
You sit by the open fire set by half-beast. Lady Ava lies flat against your rucksack as Noelle tends to her side. Emilia has secluded herself to the other end of the fire, where she appears to be rummaging through a satchel of the half-wolf’s belongings.
“What are you doing?” You scowl at the berserker. “It’s distasteful to rob the dead.”
“And what use will he have for these? To slaughter us all the better when he returns?” Emilia glares.
You open your mouth for protest, but Ava shakes her head. “..No. It’s best we take advantage of what we have.” She mutters.
