The blade makes the sound of a whetstone upon steel as you tear it from the rock, a ringing noise echoes through the cavern in tandem with the thunder from outside. You stare unblinking at the cold steel, the archaic words shimmering in the faint light as a deep blue to your tired eyes. The weight is perfect, an artifice of a master of masters in the forge of Almighty knows where. It is like an extension of your own body, a lethal extra limb.
You step and swing, the blade cutting through the air as if it were fresh from the furnace and not languishing here for hundreds of years. Exhausted as you are, hungry as you are, cold and little better than naked as you are… With this in your hands, you feel as if you could take on an entire army on your own.
Your foot slips on the gravel in your next swing and your are forced to pause in your warform stance and take a breath. The blade is in better shape than you are. You’re more than exhausted… It’s as if this very place has sapped your energy. Given your current condition, taking on an entire army is a tad ambitious. Nevertheless a weary grin breaks across your face as you thumb the razor sharp edge, nearly cutting yourself on a weapon that hasn’t been sharpened since before your grandfather’s grandfather first earned his spurs. Not an army perhaps, maybe just the vanguard.
