>>6145896Without wasting time, you lead the charge in heading towards the underground cellar where the Magic Seal resided. As it stood, you had need of magic more than these assassins did. Once the seal was dealt with, you’d have two additional fighters, and as well as much-needed access to healing. There was even the possibility that Alvin would be able to shake off the Riahi leader himself, however slim those chances were. The sword-wielding bodyguard stands within the center of your group, brightening your surroundings with his torch. You and your companions do your best to ignore the bodies littering the floor.
>“What is this Magic Seal anyway?” You ask Nadia, as you reach the top of the cellar staircase. “Is it another mechanism that you can turn off?”“The Magic Seal is a person.” Nadia says. “Through unknown means, her very existence nullifies magic around her. I have no clue as to the origin of her powers, or how they truly work. She simply arrived here one day, sent by the Royal College for safety purposes.”
You felt safer already.
>“So how do we uhh…turn her off?”“There’s a series of rooms built into the cellar that act as a containment zone for her.” Nadia says. “Something about the make of the walls blocks her ability. We just need to put her back in. Failing that…it may be necessary to kill her.”
>“How do we know she’s even still down here? Isn’t it possible the Riahi may have moved her?”“I don’t think they’d have the time. The attack began immediately after the sandstorm disappeared. There would be considerable risk of accidental death if she’d gone upstairs, either from someone from Ithaca looking to undo her ability or from the construct’s rampage. I find it likely they simply removed her restraints and left her down here where she’d be out of sight.”
You reach the bottom of the stairs and stand before a tall door. Opening it, you’re greeted by further darkness, and a vast, winding corridor. You can see nothing up ahead, yet you have the same suspicion as earlier that you were being watched by unseen eyes. The torch only illuminates a fragment of the hallway, which appears to stretch on forever. Things were far too quiet and serene for your liking here. It was obvious to you that this was a trap, meant to lure you in so the Riahi could attack you from the shadows. You could take things slowly. If you moved across the hall carefully, you could guard better against any potential attacks.
But time was of the essence…
