Okay, you need to distract yourself away from that anomalous vision forced upon your psyche. Ashton is clearly ready to do LITERALLY anything else. You think over what you should spend your time on.
You know, it's been a while since you've done some sample analysis. You snap your fingers in order to get the Man's attention. "Alright, everyone, gather around." You lead your two coworkers over to one of the many tables in your lab.
"We're going to do some RESEARCH™!"
The Man asks how you managed to make the ™ noise with your mouth. You have no idea what he's on about. Ashton visibly relaxes now that she's away from IN LIMBO. "okay, cool! what are we studying?"
"STATIC POLLEN, one of IN LIMBO's extracts-"
"oh no." Ashton slumps against the table. Yeah, you can relate, but you NEED to profit off IN LIMBO somehow. "can we work on anything else, please?"
"Keep your respirator on and you'll be fine." You toss a spare respirator to the Man when she's not looking. "We'll also study some CHERRY MOLD and BLOOD WINE, byproducts from experiments with NOWHERE'S SOMMELIER, alongside...uh. I'll think of something."
The Man states that this works for him as he puts on his mask. Any particular properties you're trying to understand, he questions?
"So, we're going to figure out how to display the memories on the pollen in a more...portable way? Boiling water isn't the best medium."
"well, i'm not a researcher, but i got an idea. if the pollen is, like, electric then maybe we can use conductive materials to do something?"
It could be possible to find a way to 'imprint' the image onto something with Ashton's suggestion, The Man hypothesizes, but he's unsure what medium would be best for that.
"We'll figure something out. Ashton, grab some wires and batteries. I'll get some scrap metal shortly." You gesture at the Man to get said scrap metal, since you don't want to mention his existence outloud while Ashton's still under surveillance.
He gets the hint and follows Ashton to get the supplies. You pour some STATIC POLLEN into a small beaker of water before heating the water. The pollen 'activates' once the water gets hot enough, displaying random memories as the pollen shifts around in the mixture.
Your two coworkers return with the requested supplies. Time to see if you can find a way to profit off the POLLEN.
>2 SUCCESSES!
Progress was initially slow. Ashton and the Man managed to make a rudimentary contraption with the scrap metal and wires in order to test Ashton's theory; that wasn't the problem. The problem was that at first, it seemed like it was doing nothing.
Any pollen placed on the electrified metal vanished into thin air, erasing the sample in the process. You thought it was a fluke the first time, but no, it simply vanished on contact. Disappointment washes over you as you realize that, ughhh, that's a sample gone.
