You don't see a need for that.>At the very least, ask Emilia if she's sure -- this could be worse than being trapped in the armor.>Does Ava know what her sister likes, or covets, that perhaps we could offer instead?“And trade one curse for another? I see no need for that.” You cut in, your voice firm. “You haven’t fallen for this drivel, have you? This could very well be a worse fate than a curse.”
“...” The berserker remains quiet.
“And suppose you find another to break her armor’s curse in my stead. What after?” The undead smiles with a slight tilt of her head. “She returns to the surface, free of her chains.. and she dies? By my measure, her time has already come. She’s kept alive only by the magic of this dungeon. I can both free her of the armor and afford her life after this dungeon.”
“And.. I would keep my mind?” Emilia’s voice quiets.
“My magic is such that I can maintain your mind past the loss of your humanity.” The undead maintains her warm demeanor. “I imagine you must have grown desperate. Your life had begun to molder and you came to this dungeon in search of immortality, to afford yourself just a bit more time without the loss of your humanity. But I can grant you the time you yearn for without the caveats of true immortality.”
“Ava. She’s your sister. Can you not convince her otherwise?” You glare. “Do you know anything she likes? What she covets that we could offer up instead?”
“I, ah..” Ava’s brow furrows. “I–.. I don’t know.”
“Oh, my. Not eager to offer up your ally’s humanity?” Mother Ingrid speaks up with a soft laugh. “..Then, I might break the curse in exchange for another affordance. Hmmm.. How about some of the organs of that doll? I don’t mean to consume her whole–the heart, perhaps, and the liver.. maybe some of the inner lining. When an organ stews in the guts of a doll’s sugar, you’re said to be able to attain its memories upon consumption.”
“But.. I would lose some of mine..” Noelle speaks softly.
“Gah. Such pickiness.” Ingrid clicks her tongue. “If you want to spur change, you have to make sacrifices. That’s how it works! But if you’re so insistent.. then I have one more offer for the breakage of her curse. For my dear half sister.. I don’t ask for much. Just some information.”
For once, her demeanor changes–she loses the warm, distant motherly affectation and her eyes grow dark. “Tell me where true immortality is. I know father told you.”
