The Knight kept silent. The young man was obviously working some things within his mind and had approached Lucian with an idea on how the conversation would go. Yet, by his own thoughts the plan had become something different. Possibly for the better or worse.
Lucian allowed Gillot to think. He was but a person who would listen at the moment, a Priest listening to a person of his flock. He does not give Gillot a thought, nor does he try to interpret the information until the end. He is but a man who listens.
Gillot finally spoke with a sense of loss in his voice, “Now I travel under the mountains alone, losing Lemera in a battle against the dead and damned. Those I called friends abandoned me, yet they said nothing to stop me.”
There was a long sigh coming from the Prince as he gave the token of information needed, “If I do not get you to agree with me, Lucian, I will never be able to inherit the lands of my Blood.”
He was correct, as far as Lucian understood correctly. Duke Moriset would not allow his son to attain the rank of Realm Knight because of what the Knight had done. No man in their right mind would go against a Duke’s command, even another Duke would not be willing to raise the son of another against his will.
So, by the laws and Oaths of a Knight Errant, he was required to chase Lucian throughout the world. He needed to chase the route to becoming a Knight of the Realm for otherwise there was no reason to fight.
Yet something has changed.
“Those horrors, that White Dwarf.” The Knight looked towards Lucian with a sense of both confusion and just wonder, “What were they? I have only fought against the horrors that were Orks but they were different. Those undead, they wore the armor of Bretonnian Knights! Our people!”
He had finally asked Lucian a question so the Knight answered, “They are forces of what is good and what is Chaos. The White Dwarf we witnessed was but a living omen of the First Dwarfen High King Grombrindal, those undead being the forces of Nagash, first Necromancer.”
The high education of a Bretonnian Duke’s son paid off in that moment as he spoke, “Nagash, the First Necromancer from Araby? But his name is from the Age of Legend. His forces had only attacked when the Empire and Bretonnia were first founded. A tale told to children!”
“The Age of Legend never ended. We’re in a legend in the making.” Lucian answered knowing firmly that they were true. The Black Knight decided then it was time to share what he knew.
