“We will deal with it.” Lucian whispered to the Dwarf in the same low tone, “I want to see what happens. Stay close to this fellow.”
If the Baron heard their chatter he did not make note of it. He spoke with the splendor that would be expected of a Realm Knight, not showing in any way what might be a task of discipline, “It has come to my attention that something most foul lives within the sewers of this city. Said creature has been causing my cistern to fail and overflow. You shall get rid of the issue for me.”
“You think there is a monster underneath the city?” Adolf asked with an almost humorous tone, “Wouldn’t someone have gone over and tried to slay it if it was a great beast? How do you know?”
“The Knight Errants I would have sent seemed more content with raiding their neighboring villages for plunder.” There was a distinct annoyance within the voice of the Bretonnian Noble, “I know that it is some creature because I have sent ten peasants down there to take care of the issue. None of them have returned.”
The words of the Baron helped everyone there realize it. For the first time since meeting the man Lucian noticed a hint of concern within the eyes of the Imperial. It was a true sense of surprise coming across him. Lucian would agree at the surprise at there being a monster underneath the city, but he was also witness to a month’s long conspiracy within this very city that was very much the same.
Horrors knew how to hide until the last moment.
“Then we will all fight it.” Lucian said as he stepped forward, “Adolf, if you are willing, another blade against horrors would be appreciated.”
His concern quickly became a smile as he heard that, “I would be up for that.”
“Then lets get going.” Adok said as he turned heel already, “Lets kill ourselves a monster already!”
With those words they all set off, the Baron looking upon them with some hint of disdain. At the very least if they succeeded he would not need to go down there himself like he was planning. It would have been far too dirty and dishonorable for a Noble Knight of Bretonnia.
