"I surely hope he can handle rejection..." Farnese whispers. "Gallahad was your master when training as a royal knight, correct? He became a bit of a legend at the docks, perhaps being his last pupil would leverage some of your status."
"After his body was buried under my estate? Unlikely... At least I am not considered a commoner, hopefully that will count for something."
"Hopefully." She repeats, walking further into the water to wet her feet.
"Any idea on when Guts will be able to walk again?"
"The way he is, I'll be glad if he can just open his eyes without screaming. I'd give him a few more weeks until he recovers, but knowing how eager he is to walk around without waiting for his injuries to heal, he'll likely just start undoing his straps and walking by himself in a few days if I let him."
"Stubborn as always, isn't he? Oddly enough, I feel like him being a commander gave him some experience in leading our group, I wouldn't mind it if it happened again, perhaps it could serve as a bonding for the opposing sides of our group."
Farnese's advice is sound, maybe you'll give him a word when he is able to listen.
Oddly enough, when approaching the water to check your face, you feel something tugging at your lifted heel. Turning over to get rid of the crab pinching you, you're surprised to meet a young child, not older than 4 years old, playing with the extra skin on your ankle. As he loses balance and falls face first on the sand, he starts to quietly sob as Farnese attempts to clean his face.
"What's a child doing here?"
"Naked, too. His skin is freezing." You start to worry about the kid as he avoids your touch after letting him fall, raising his arms to the direction of your camp's bonfire.
"Should we look out for his parents? I don't see anyone in the vicinity."
"I think it's smarter to just ask him first."
"Well, he hasn't spoken anything so far."
After being cleaned, the boy returns to his neutral expression. He lacks the energy of a kid his age, and the way he remains silent and avoiding your gaze when you claim for his attention makes his appearance all the more mysterious.
