You elect to conduct a break-in. It might be a good idea to make it look like a robbery gone wrong, or to make the victim vanish entirely. On one hand, a simple kill and leave is the most effortless and, assuming you quickly scan for any traces of evidence, leaves little room for leads connecting to you and doesn’t suffer from overcomplication.
A staged break-in will draw a LOT of scrutiny, and if any of it seems inauthentic it could receive a bigger investigation. However, it’d provide a plausible motive to draw heat off of yourself, and might turn attention local instead of towards the city.
Disappearing the victim entirely would be tough work, and you’d have to be very careful with how you do it, but could lead to a full-on mystery for all investigating, and leave no sign of murder.
>I’ll stage a break-in and make a mess, taking care not to incriminate myself. I’ll take some valuables to sell the lie.
>I’ll just slip in, kill and leave the victim where they are, after disposing of any incriminating evidence.
>I’ll completely disappear the victim, one way or another. Burial, dismemberment, dumping the body in the middle of the woods. Something like that.
