>>5890900You eye the balcony and the subway tunnel, weighing the options, running the simulations in your mind. "I think the subway tunnel is the better idea. The balcony does give us a better angle at a kill shot as a solid plan B, but it's too risky since rellocating from that position would take longer. Besides, I trust our squad to take the shot they're assigned, just as they trust us in ours."
Yunnus smiles and gives a nod, "My thoughts exactly. Let's hoof it then, boys."
The three of you quickly make your way under the subway, setting up the Regina just out enough that you're peeking out of the subway entrance. Gaspa has his rifle up and ready, scanning the surroundings for Wappas, infantry patrols, or big green giants while you and Yunnus focus on doing your jobs.
"Team A, in position." You hear a female voice call out through the comms, your squadmate Justine.
"Team B, sitrep?" you hear your sergeant's voice ask.
"Just about... there, got it." Yunnus answers over the comms as the assembly is finished and you begin calibrating the targeting computer. Yunnus whips out a digital tablet showing a map of the area. You see the map begin to get fuzzier and fuzzier. "Minovsky particles are beginning to condense. Zaku should be reaching our proximity any minute now." Yunnus updates.
"Kill box ready?" Srgt. Philip asks.
"Affirmative." you and Justine say over the comms, almost at the exact time. Sounds like she's the shooter for Team A.
"Gunners, keep your eyes peeled for Wappas but do NOT engage unless necessary. If we g..ve ou.. posit..n away too soo.., the mi..ion w..ll b.. compr..ised. Cle..r?"
"Cl..r." Ben responds.
"You got it." Gaspa says.
"Minovsky particles are starting to affect comms, it's almost time. Be ready." Yunnus announces.
It's a tense handful of minutes as you wait in silence, and it's slowly sinking in that this is your first live combat mission. One mistake, one missed shot, one stroke of bad luck, and lives will be crushed underfoot. You keep your eyes glued to the monitor, ready to fire and control the missile, trusting Yunnus to keep an eye out for the target and direct your angle of fire.
Suddenly, you begin to feel it. Shaking. Rhythmic. Giant footsteps hitting asphalt. It's subtle at first, but quickly becomes stronger. It's getting close. All three of you wait tensely, none dare to break the silence. Then, you see it.. the tip of a large metal foot, slamming into the ground with a terrifying, nearly logic defying might. This is it, and you steel yourself like never before. The giant slab of metal in the shape of a foot rises slowly, and comes crashing back down a moment later.
