Before his death Timur had called an alliance with the other various Mongol tribes, so ideally Eastern Chagatai Khanate will not stab you in the back and was supposed to allow you through to attack China... however that deal was with Timur. Alternatively, you could contend with the Phagmodrupa dynasty in Tibet, and possibly seize that envoy for information. Sadly, the Himalayans are brutal under the kindest conditions, and the elephants will be slow crossing.
