>>5352623“The dwarves have a notion of using orichalcum constructions, channels of this black stone or an alloy, to store and transmit magic through their underground complexes… To control temperature, power machinery, and much more. It could enable the growing of crops and livestock beneath the earth, enough for all of us!”
You hand the ingot of orichalcum-iron to Jazkarmel, and the dark elf leader turns it over and over in her hand, before setting it next to the ruby and half-smiling at you.
“A beautiful dream, Dragonborn,” she says. “But do you know how to do it?”
“I have taken many dwarves as slaves, and mean to vassalize them as I did the kobolds,” you say, attempting to project the confidence of inevitable victory. “We will own their secret methods, and our alchemists and mages will make them our own.”
Jazkarmel leans back in her seat a little, considering your words with as neutral a look on her face as she can manage. You have been spending more time interacting with mammals lately, though. You see interest, albeit also some skepticism.
“And until then?” she asks. “It sounds as if it will take time. You ask for food now for the POSSIBILITY fo food later. Bad trade.”
You lean forward, and tap the amulet upon your neck, drawing the elf’s eyes to it.
“You have seen how our Amulets of Disguise can transform even a great glow-worm into one of my kind,” you say. “That type of transformation is not limited to just Reptilian forms, but also can be used to disguise one of my race as a human. A savvy Infiltrator can trade the wealth for food easily.”
Of course, you’ll need to think of some way to smooth over the matter of the Dwarves of Bloodrise no longer being affiliated with their ‘corporations’… But Jazkarmel does not know of dwarven socio-economic structure, and it is a bridge you can cross when you later come to it.
