Rifleman 2nd Class, Arles of Fire team Charlie coughed up a mouthful of blood, the hot liquid dripping down his chin. He didn't bother to whip it off. The numerous jagged spears of pine that perforated his side couldn't be walked off. Baker, jazil and Lihli were gone. Arles could only just make out Baker's arm, pinched under the body of the pine tree the man had been hiding behind. At his side the corpse of sweet little Zazil was a dart board, she had taken most of the shrapnel for him. Her once pretty face now ruined. The dead eyes that hung from her sockets kept him from looking for too long.
He choked out a breath. Lihli had been clipped by the airborne war machine as he moved for cover, god knows where his head was. The bright red smear across the snow hinted it was all over the place. Turanovic, stumbled into view, he gave Arles a feeble nod. Steaming blood flows from him as he limps towards the enemy Phobos that was in a crouch nearby. Arles returned the gesture, he still had a job to do after all. As delicately as he could the man pulled the Tagger from Zazil's still warm hands. Her gloves sat on her lap, it had been too hard for her to operate with them on. Pulling his own gloves off his fingers bounced along the buttons. Raising the device he pointed it at the towering machine. Turanovic detonated with a soft pop, the world grew quiet as the flash hurt his eyes. Arles closed them, focusing on holding the device steady. It released a soft chirp as the tagger locked on. It was the last sound the man heard as life left him.
