“I am Lucian the Durand.” Declared the Black Knight as he halted Nightshade and starred into the eyes of the Count, “You speak of Dishonor, yet I was the one who was injured by your milita. These men, each of them, ran from my group as we approached the camp.”
There was a clear spark of recognition within the eyes of the Count as he heard those words. It made sense for Lucian’s ascension was done before all the Lords of Bastonne, Aquitaine, and Bordeleaux. Yet the man looked more confused than any as he continued.
“You understand then that I am on a war footing. Your brazen approach into my camp could have been mistaken as an enemy action and you would have been cut down where you rode.” The Count took refuge in semantics and reasonable arguments to keep himself from expressing confusion, “If I did not have the wisdom to hold our lances, you would be dead.”
“It is the blessing of Morr then that you did not do so. That you saw through the screams of horror that your peasants had expressed as what they were. Men, terrified of things they do not understand.” Lucian pressed as he pressed his hand against his chest, “If I had done as you said then my honor would have been further stained by standing outside your camp like a fool.”
“Why are you here?” The Count said as he shook his head with red covering his face, “A Knight like you does not simply appear for no reason. An Errant should know to keep back his tongue against a Knight of the Realm unless there is good reason.”
“Indeed, six miles to the south of this camp, over three hills worth of valley, was a village that was wiped of its people. Their corpses gone in whatever barbaric matter I do not know.” Lucian declared as he faced the man, “Did you do this, Count Husson? Did you wipe out an entire village of five hundred souls to sate your appetite for war just as Baron Budapest had?”
“Budapest? That… that…” The man grew in slow realization as he spoke firmly, “No, no I was not the one who killed those people. They were my people after all, there is no reason for me to bring my blade against that village.”
“Then you have nothing to fear from me then.” The Black Knight spoke, and suddenly all tension that was between the two groups disappeared like popping an annoying bubo.
