“Oh, that? That's easy.” the demon answers, your wife's rage not lessening as you both 'listen' intently. “Her manipulation magic only functions when the target, in this case you, feel as if you owe a debt to her.” the demon continues as if your wife isn't ten seconds from obliterating him and the magic shop he runs with that lich, the other former Demon King General. “No doubt by her expert manipulation skills. The key to overcoming this ability of hers is simple: you have to repay your debt to her.”
“My debt?” you ask, confused. “What do you mean?”
“However she did it, she no doubt got her magical manipulation hooks into you.” Vanir explains. “You have to figure out what you 'owe' her, and find a way to pay that debt back. Once you do this, then she will no longer have any hold over you.”
“Pay her back?” you ask, thinking it over several seconds. Then it snaps, you remembering something you'd learned just minutes ago. “How about making her the only remaining worshiper of Regina, giving her full access to her goddess' powers?”
“Oho, you have made her even more of a threat than she was.” Vanir replies. “That would certainly count. Although, I would advise fleeing, boy. You don't stand a chance against the full power of a goddess directly.”
“You clearly don't know who I am.” you tell the demon, confidence swelling. “I almost killed one god already, and would have finished him off if ANOTHER deity hadn't stepped in.”
“Wait, you almost offed a deity?” Vanir asks, you feeling the demon's shock through the telepathic link. “Impossible. There's no way a mere mortal like yourself went toe-to-toe with a god.”
“When I'm done with your former comrade, how about you try me yourself?” you ask, feeling yourself grinning. You've been through much worse, you can handle this easily enough. “I'll still have more than enough left to take you down, fly my wife home, and create a second home while I'm at it.”
“Oho, you think you're that powerful?” the demon asks, a happily taunting edge to his voice. “Well, how about you handle Seresdina first, then if you survive we can celebrate your great victory?”
