The trip down was not hard for Mar’s defenses had all but been destroyed. Maybe if the traitors had taken another angle of attack they could have fully taken over the defense grid of Mars. Instead the Iron Ring which surrounded the red planet had found many of its turrets firing upon one another. Anti air assets which could have proven a problem for either side invading began firing upon one another. Mortar systems that would have stopped a land based advance were silenced as local batteries simply lobbed ordinance against one another without care.
Such thoughts ignored the armies which were now roaming the plains and mountains. Mars was littered with Warbands of both Loyalist and Traitors that were exacting revenge upon perceived slights. All of this compounded with what was a rainstorm that was now covering an entire continent.
Rogal Dorn had seen fit to bring by his side Lucius the Elder with him. As they went through the clouds the old man was upon his knees praying to the Machine God who they had worshiped even before this event.
Gods. Rogal wondered just how real they were for his Imperial Fists had found many of the traitors worshiping deities. Yet by his side a trusted advisor in the form of Lucius the Elder was a similar kind of man to those who betrayed the Imperium.
“The Rains upon Mars is what happens when the Omnissiah arrives.” Dorn declared, testing if his statement was incorrect to the old man who slowly rose from his kneeling.
“It is the greatest sign that is beyond any doubt. Such a miracle like this truly shows that the Omnissiah himself has touched down upon the planet of Mars.” Lucius said as he walked over and stood next to Dorn, “I speak these words, Rogal, as a skeptic. I did not trust the words of Marvec and for that I was shunned by the Red Planet and sent with my followers to find another home. But it seems that even the Mad may have had a spark of inspiration.”
“Then you do not think it is a sorcery caused by our enemies?” Rogal found his words both easily and nearly impossible to be spoken. Even months ago he would not have even comprehended the idea of speaking the word ‘Sorcery’ with any real credence.
“Only if you distrust your brother.” Lucius answered with.
Rogal knew that his brother was indeed doing something similar to sorceries last time they met, so he had to wonder if his brother was indeed not practicing such sorceries.
It was too late to second guess Rogal Dorn soon snapped. If his brother wanted him dead he would have been so already for Rogal Dorn could not see Particep Semper standing vigil over the siege.
It was time to meet his brother
