“Goodnight hun.” your wife says, kissing you before rolling over and snuggling in close, pressing her back to your chest.
“Goodnight Megu.” you reply, holding your wife to you, closing your eyes. It has been a long day, waking up to a battle with the undead demigod lich Velsharoon then spending the next several hours after the exhausting battle cleaning up the aftermath. Yet, despite everything, you don't feel sleepy. You're tired, drained even, but don't feel a need to sleep. However, knowing you need sleep after everything close your eyes, focusing on the feeling of your wife's heartbeat next to your own, the rise and fall of her body as she breathes, quickly drifting off to sleep herself that usually allows you to sleep. Yet, try as you might, sleep doesn't take you. Counting the minutes one by one until, after a hundred seventy five minutes give up on sleep, deciding to go up to your lab and get more work done.
“Easy, easy.” you think to yourself, gingerly lifting your wife's frame with telekinesis, just enough to slide your arm out from underneath her. Tucking the covers around her you then sneak out of bed, silently walking out of your room on bare feet. Taking two stops before going up, silently peering through each of your children's doors into their bedrooms, seeing them both fast asleep. Smiling to yourself you then head upstairs, gently closing the door behind you. Resting on the pedestal near your worktable is your reclaimed Death Tome, not a single page defaced or missing from it. Your staff, having exploded from the strain of the battle lay in pieces on your workbench, waiting for you to use your Chaos magic to repair. However, as you stare at it, you consider leaving it broken and simply building a new one, one stronger and that can handle the much greater power you'd begun to channel.
Pondering back, you remember how it had felt, how even your awareness had grown during the fight and for a time after as well. How you'd not only been able to feel and draw upon ALL of the leylines running throughout your world, but that you'd been able to feel each and every single being living on or under the planet's surface. You could feel them all, millions of beings across your planet going about their days and living their lives. And as you think back, you remember your father explaining when something similar happened to him, how he'd gained a similar awareness after becoming New Salda's Champion. Back before the previous Guardian's death, and how he taught your father to tap into that power.
